Dariush Eghbali spent his early years in Karaj, 40 km west of Tehran. At the age of nine he was on the stage at his school. Actor Hassan Khayatbashi introduced him to Iranian television in 1971. He quickly became popular with the song Don’t Tell Me You Love Me. His work consists of over 200 songs and 26 music albums. He also acted in two Iranian films.
Eghbali is a member of Amnesty International. He campaigns for the Iran Recovery Center and the Ayeneh Foundation and uses his popularity to promote a drug-free lifestyle through the Internet, educational events and conferences.
